Cat Scan Procedure
Cardiac scoring is a pain-free, non-invasive procedure requiring less than 10 minutes of your time. Using Cat Scan technology, this test takes 70-90 images of your coronary arteries without any injections, needles or removal of your clothing. The amount of calcium or plaque detected in your coronary arteries is used to establish your cardiac score.
About the Procedure
Following a brief questionnaire, you will be asked to lie down flat on an imaging table. A few EKG leads may be comfortably placed on your body. From there you will be asked to hold your breath for several seconds while the images are taken. Based on the images captured, your physician will recommend the best course of action.
This type of procedure is safe, and very simple. A cardiac scoring examination can help you and your doctor determine whether or not you are at risk for heart disease, if you already have it, and things you can do to lower your risk.
